Equestrian sports are popular in the area and fishing is also a major recreational activity locally.

Carsington Waters is a popular site for all. The site is over the road from the Uppertown Farm commercial site and overlooks the reservoir. The nearest pub is 10 minute walk away (Knockerdown Inn) and the Carsington Water Visitor Centre is 15 minute walk in the opposite direction.

The site is very close to the cycle and walking trails around the reservoir.

Newstead Abbey

A beautiful location with free access onto the Abbey grounds.

The Abbey was founded in the 12th century, was purchased by Lord Byron’s (the poet) ancestor Sir John Byron of Colwick. In the 18th century a magnificent landscape setting was created in front of the entrance. This included the lake guarded by ” forts” where the 5th Lord Byron (the wicked lord) and his sailor brother ”Fair Weather Jack” (the poets grandfather) held Mock battles. The house then fell into disrepair and was eventually sold (1817) .It was sold again in 1925 and the abbey and grounds were given to the City of Nottingham in 1931.

There is no need to book in for the youth area but for all meets after this bookings will be taken due to needing to know for space planning & possible number restriction. *As per our previous posts, please keep your eyes out for further anouncements for future areas. *Details will be taken for a contact for track and trace. *Can we please request that if any TEST PASSED youth are to camp alone that they please let us know even for Newstead so we are aware. *There will be a CCY & young campers area at this stage but NO CCJ until further notice. Sherwood Forest Holiday Park is a peaceful, picturesque site with an abundance of wildlife and mature trees. We are on the banks of the River Maun and there is also a lake on the site which is home to ducks, swans and all manner of creatures.

Local attractions include: Sherwood Forest Railway (a small steam engine and play park), Amen Corner Go-Karting, Sherwood Pines, Rufford Park, Clumber Park, Creswell Crags, and of course Sherwood Forest visitor centre at Edwinstowe, home of Robin Hood and the Major Oak. There is also a car boot every sunday nearby (weather permitting).
